Welcome To The Daily Haggis: The Next Generation
New, blue, and user-friendly!
Welcome to the new edition of The Daily Haggis. I started this website back in December of 2002, and slowly it has become an ever-growing priority in my life. After six months and over 1,200 visits, I was ready to update the site a little.
First was shedding Blogger. The free service helped me out in the beginning by teaching me how to use tables properly and refreshed me on coding HTML by hand. I couldn’t have made this website without the experience I got from it.
Alas, it was beginning to lack the features I was wanting on my site more and more, and Moveable Type looked more and more appealing (if I could figure out how to install it). I emailed my (then current) host and asked them about the requirements to run it. The answer was no, and the very next day I switched hosts.
Bloghosts, a new hosting company that specializes in hosting Blogs, stepped in. For the exact same price I was paying ($5 a month!) i got about 150% more options and everything that I needed to run MT. Bonus part: the great tech at Bloghosts installed Moveable Type FOR me!
After that it was four tiresome days of redesigning, brainstorming, and tweaking. The result? Options, baby.
Here’s a list of some of the new additions to the site:
Integrated Search
: You can now search every article I’ve ever posted by keyword, from anywhere in the site!
Category View
: Came here only looking for Film news? Or do the weird stories draw you here every week? Well now you can sort the articles just by clicking on the catagory at the top of the page. Doing so will list the past 20 articles i’ve posted in that category.
Monthly Archives
: Since I now have a search bar, I can archive the articles by month instead of by week, making for a much cleaner sidebar. Okay, this one’s mostly aesthetics. 
Comments
: Yes, the comments system is back, but works much quicker and doesn’t slow the whole site down, since it’s integrated in MT’s code.
Individual Articles
: Find something interesting or funny in one of the articles, and want to share it with someone? Now by clicking on the “PermaLink” link at the end of the article, it will bring up a seperate page with just that article and any comments recently made.
Category View
