My Musical Soulmate

My Musical Soulmate via Last.FM

The social networking music site Last.FM released a new feature on their beta Playground site called “Musical Soulmates” which is supposed to match your musical tastes up to someone else’s, and tell you how close of a match you make.

To my surprise, the #3 person on my “Musical Soulmate” list is my girlfriend Candy (as seen above). It’s pretty awesome when a social networking site tells me I’ve already met my soulmate, musical or otherwise.

The idea is pretty neat in its own way. Last.FM posted a lengthy explanation on their developer blog:

Our goal for this new service is learn how to introduce you to other Last.fm users who have lots in common with you – so you can be sure to find something you’ll like if you explore their home pages or listen to their personal radio. Making this vision a reality is challenging, but we think we’ve made a promising start. We’ve also tried hard to design the service so that we can quickly incorporate new ideas into the way we find neighbours – so please let us know how you think we’re doing, and what would make your neighbours even better.

You can find your own musical soulmate at the Last.FM Playground.
